WOMEN GUIDE
Choose women’s powerlifting footwear separately for squat, bench and deadlift, with attention to size availability and competition rules.
Women’s powerlifting footwear should be selected by lift: a raised or flat squat shoe, a secure bench setup, and usually a low, firm option for deadlifts. There is no single women-specific heel height that solves all three.
In the squat, a raised heel may help a lifter use the desired position, while another lifter prefers a flatter setup. Test it with the actual competition stance and bar placement rather than choosing by the word powerlifting on a product page. For the deadlift, low sole thickness keeps the foot closer to the floor; a substantial raised heel changes the starting geometry.
The fact that a shoe can be worn for all three lifts does not make it the best compromise for each. A two-pair setup can be straightforward: use the tested squat shoe, then change to the preferred flat pulling shoe. It is also reasonable to keep one firm pair when it already works for the whole program.
Check whether the shoe grips the platform and allows the foot position required by your federation. A different sole or heel can alter how you establish contact with the floor, so practice the complete setup before meet day. Do not choose a bench heel on the assumption that it automatically produces more leg drive.
Competition rules matter independently of fit. The IPF rulebook specifies permitted footwear conditions, and its 2026 clarification requires shoes to be properly fastened. Other federations can differ. Check the event’s rules rather than assuming a shoe marketed for powerlifting is accepted everywhere.
Women can use a suitable unisex lifter if its actual shape and available size work. Nike’s paired size labels and adidas’ model-specific sizing routes are more useful than a generic conversion remembered from casual shoes. Use the chart for the selected model and confirm whether the retailer lists US men’s, US women’s, UK or EU sizes.
For a first raised-heel comparison, the cited Powerlift 5 KJ4396 listing documents a 15 mm lift; check the specification for the exact style you select. It is a squat candidate, not a reason to replace a successful flat deadlift shoe. Keep the competition footwear choice tied to the lift where it earns its place.
