HEEL GUIDE
Understand Adipower 3 heel lift versus total stack height, and compare its published 22 mm elevation with other lifting shoes.
adidas lists Adipower Weightlifting 3 with a 22 mm heel lift and 35 mm stack height. Those are different measurements; the 35 mm stack should not be described as 35 mm of heel elevation.
The official adidas Adipower Weightlifting 3 page separates stack height from heel lift. Heel lift concerns the difference in elevation between the rearfoot and forefoot. Stack describes total thickness at the stated measurement location. Comparing one model’s total heel thickness with another model’s heel-to-toe difference produces a misleading result.
Twenty-two millimeters is approximately 0.87 inches, so this model is not an exact one-inch heel on the manufacturer’s published lift figure. The number also belongs to Adipower 3; do not apply it to every shoe bearing the Adipower name without checking the generation.
For an adidas comparison, the cited Powerlift 5 KJ4396 page lists a 15 mm heel lift, giving a 7 mm difference from the cited Adipower 3. Other Powerlift 5 listings may give a different figure, so match the exact style. The two shoes also differ in construction, so a difference in feel should not automatically be attributed entirely to those 7 mm.
More elevation changes the position of the foot in the squat, but it is not a universal route to better technique. The relevant questions are whether the lifter can reach the intended position, remain balanced and use the stance required by the lift. Research on squat footwear examines particular participants, loads and movements; it does not prescribe 22 mm for every lifter.
When a retailer gives a different heel figure, ask whether it means effective lift, external heel height or a measurement taken by the retailer. Use like-for-like specifications for the shortlist. Do not add loose heel inserts simply to reproduce a number from a comparison: they also change the space and retention inside the shoe.
If you already own Adipower 3, the useful record is the published specification plus your experience in the intended squat or receiving position. That provides a reference for a future change. A photograph of a taller-looking heel block is a much weaker comparison.
